Splitting

Docbox allows one job with multiple recipients to be spilt into multiple jobs each with a single recipient. This can be useful for certain application output or processes such as Microsoft Word Mail Merge.

The original (multi-recipient) job is referred to as the parent job which is then split into multiple child jobs, each with one recipient.

The Job Details‍ of the child job link to the parent job.

Viewing in Dashboard

The main dashboard‍ will show parent jobs. These are indicated by the type icon. Child jobs can be accessed from the parent via View Child Jobs from the action menu . Child jobs are indicated by the type icon.

The original PDF (before split) can be viewed by selecting the parent job. This is for reference purposes only.

Actions can be taken against parent and / or child jobs.

If using the name / address filter on the main dashboard, the results will show all jobs that match the criteria specified. This will include child jobs and individual jobs.

Definition

Splitting is defined at the printer level in the control panel.

There are 2 different types of splitting:

  • Fixed - job is split every x pages
  • Variable - job is split when specified trigger text is found in a specified location area
    • This page will become page 1 of new recipient.

Validation

Each child job will go through the normal validation process.

Optionally, the whole job (all children) can be failed if any child job(s) fails validation (quarantined).

If this option is selected in the printer configuration and any child job fails validation, all other child jobs will be automatically cancelled and not sent for print processing.

Parent Jobs

These are shown for reference purposes. The parent job is not sent for production processing. Only the eligible child jobs are passed to production processing.
