Envelopes

Envelope records define the physical envelope stock available for use on your printers, including dimensions, weight, and capacity.

If you send output via Docmail, envelope records also control how Docmail selects or overrides the envelope used for a job. Not all customers use Docmail as their output channel, so Docmail-specific settings are grouped separately and are not mandatory to complete.

You can manage envelope records via Control Panel > Envelopes.

The Administrator and Control Panel roles can view envelope records. Only Administrators can create or modify them.

Envelope Settings
Name The name shown in the printer setup and print job information.
Stock Code Internal stock management code.

Physical Specifications
Width (mm) The width of the envelope.
Height (mm) The height of the envelope.
Weight (grams) The weight of a single empty envelope. Added to the sheet weights to calculate mailing weight.
Sheet Capacity The number of sheets the envelope can hold. Jobs containing more sheets than this are rejected.

Docmail Specifications These settings only apply if the envelope is used with a Docmail output channel.
Type
  • Standard envelope - Docmail selects the envelope based on the envelope size below, using your account's default envelope group.
  • Custom envelope - overrides with a specific named envelope from the Docmail library.
Docmail envelope size

The minimum Docmail envelope size.

Defaults to Automatic, which selects the appropriate size based on the sheet count, so you don't need to choose a value if you don't use Docmail.

Letter address panel
  • Automatic - applies the address panel regardless of envelope type.
  • Suppress - use if the letter already provides an address. Suppress cannot be used with window envelopes.

Address Handling
Return Address An optional return address printed on the envelope. Not printed on window envelopes.
